Wesley Medical Center, 550 N. Hillside, will begin installing a new MRI machine this weekend as part of a $1.9 million project, according to a news release.
The installation will require a large crane, which will lift the equipment over a building and into the courtyard, which will mean all EMS traffic will be redirected to the main entrance of Building Seven.
The new MRI will increase the number of patients who can have imaging by 10 to 15 people a day, according to the release. With the two current machines, the hospital does about 9,000 scans a year.
This is the hospital’s first “wide bore” MRI, which means it has a larger opening than traditional machines for bariatric patients and those who are claustrophobic. It will be located on the first floor of the hospital next to the emergency department.
