Via Christi Health has named Randy Peterson as interim president and CEO, effective Dec. 21.
"The board is very confident in the leadership at Via Christi Health and Randy Peterson's ability to continue implementation of Via Christi's strategic direction and plans," said David Strohm, chair of the board of trustees of Via Christi Health, in a news release Monday.
Via Christi said Peterson will serve in the position while it conducts a search for a permanent replacement.
Kevin Conlin, the system's current president and CEO, announced earlier his plans to join health insurance firm Coventry as executive vice president.
Peterson joined Via Christi Health in September 2006 as senior vice president for regional operations, which put him in charge of overseeing Via Christi's hospitals in Pittsburg, Manhattan and Wamego.
In August, he was appointed senior vice president at Via Christi Health Hospitals, expanding his oversight to include Via Christi's hospitals in Wichita.
He is former president and CEO of Salina Regional Health Center.
