Since Gary Oborny of Occidental Management recently purchased the former armory at 620 N. Edgemoor, there’s been speculation about what he might do with it.
“We’ve got some opportunities, but we haven’t narrowed anything down,” he says.
He paid $550,000 for the 21,000-square-foot building, which is just north of the McDonald’s at Central and Edgemoor.
“If I was going to speculate … I think we’re going to do something medical there,” Oborny says. “I’ve got some ideas in my head about how that building ought to be redone, repositioned.”

He says there are good demographics in nearby areas and the intersection isn’t far from Wesley Medical Center or Via Christi Hospital St. Joseph. There are also other medical buildings nearby.
“We’re in a very good medical area,” Oborny says.
“If I didn’t have a good gut feeling about what I can do with it, I wouldn’t have bought it.”
Oborny says he’ll have to seek rezoning.
“Whatever we do there will be an amenity to the neighborhood. It’ll be a drastic improvement from what it is currently.”
