Stems is going to be opening in new space either late this week or early next week.
Cheryl and Jack Dixon’s floral shop had been in the Central and Woodlawn area. Now it’s going to open in the space where Cooking at Bonnie’s Place had been next to Tad’s Locker Room in Cambridge Market at 21st and Webb Road.
The new space will be a more efficient one, says Cathy Erickson, Cambridge Market’s manager.
Erickson says the previous Stems space had been on two levels.
Never miss a local story.
“Nobody really knew that, but they had a big storage area in their basement,” she says. “They were hauling a lot of stuff up and down the stairs all the time.”
The new 2,128-square-foot space is all on one level, “which is going to make it a lot easier for them.”
In addition to selling flowers, Stems also rents items, such as vases and other things found in centerpieces at weddings.
“They have all that,” Erickson says.
For brides who “want just a one-stop shop … it just puts everything kind of in one place for you.”
Stems does about 150 weddings and other events a year. The new space will allow for an expanded room for bridal consultations.
The Dixons won’t have a lot of changes with the move, but Erickson says, “They’re going to carry a little bit more retail.”
That includes an expanded candle line.
And, to answer a very important question for some, Stems will continue to sell its chocolates.
