Scholfield Honda is breaking ground at 10:45 a.m. Friday on a new home for the dealership, which Roger Scholfield first told Have You Heard? about in February.
“Much like the Honda vehicles, we continue to evolve as a dealership,” Scholfield says.
The dealership, which is on 12 acres along Kellogg between Woodlawn and Rock Road, currently is in about 47,000 square feet in three different buildings.
Scholfield is combining most everything – new car sales, express and full service – into a new 63,000-square-foot facility. A used car sales building that’s currently in use will remain in use after some updating.
The new building will house two new express service bays, which makes four altogether.
Scholfield also is combining a couple of customer lounges in a large space with refreshments, a children’s area, TVs, WiFi and a fireplace.
Schaefer Johnson Cox Frey Architecture is the architect, and Hutton Construction is the contractor.
Construction will be done in several phases since business will be ongoing at the property. The new building should be ready in early 2017.
Scholfield also has a dealership at 8880 W. Central that received an addition and extensive remodeling four years ago.
“So that has pretty much been upgraded,” Scholfield says. He says there’s some minor remodeling going on there “just to freshen it up a bit.”
Scholfield says the main focus is on upgrading the east-side Scholfield Honda.
“Obviously, we’re pretty excited.”
