Wichita’s Quality Printing, which started in the 1950s, is merging with Valley Offset Printing in Valley Center.
“It’s a fairly large order to move a printing company,” says Quality Printing owner Danny Penachio.
He’s owned the business, which at one time had 15 employees, since 1980.
“I went to work for this company in about 1955,” he says.
Never miss a local story.
Most recently, there’s been seven employees at the business, which is at 2413 S. Laura.
“Our folks for the most part have retired,” Penachio says. “And I’m also retiring.”
The exception is Mike Sowards, who has been in customer service and will continue to be with Valley Offset.
“They have more services to offer than we did,” Penachio says. “They do Web printing.”
Also, Valley Offset has in-house mailing, he says.
Valley Offset vice president Travis Bryant, whose family started the company in 1988, says the business will keep some of Quality Printing’s equipment but not all of it.
He says the merger is more about “just helping get more customers.”
Bryant says his daughter, Ashley Martin, and Sowards will work together on customer service.
Valley Offset is at 160 S. Sheridan in Valley Center.
Penachio says a physical location doesn’t mean much for a business anymore so the fact that Valley Offset is in Valley Center shouldn’t be an issue.
“Today’s market, everything’s electronic till it breaks,” he says.
Penachio says the merger of the two companies makes sense for Quality Printing.
“We’ve merged with a good company for the customers.”
