After more than a decade in business at a couple of places along East Douglas, Foggy Bottom is moving to the former Wichita Mall at 4301 E. Harry.
“We need a bigger space, and we will actually have close to 10,000 square feet,” says manager Laura Terry.
The store sells casual clothing and accessories along with prom and formal wear for women and tuxes for men.
“Right now, our prom and formal wear is all upstairs,” Terry says.
Never miss a local story.
The new space is all on one level.
“That’s a great thing,” she says. “Sometimes the girls will come in with a grandparent or even a parent who isn’t able to get up the stairs.”
The casual wear lines, which have sizes from extra small to about 6X, also are expanding. The store’s new runway will be bigger than the current one, too.
“Actually, the runway will be in a room all by itself,” Terry says. She says there will be disco lights and other things to “make it so it’ll be fun.”
A new costume area will be a significant change, she says.
“Our costume area will probably be three times bigger than it is at this point.”
The store has costumes for women, men, children and infants.
The costumes are for more than just Halloween. There’s Steampunk and Renaissance-type clothing, flapper outfits and other period pieces.
“We’re going to have a lot of vintage clothing so we can do different eras,” Terry says. “Just about everything you can think of.”
There also will be a new gift shop within the store called the Dragon’s Lair at Foggy Bottom.
“It’ll just be whimsical kinds of things,” Terry says.
Think fairy houses and dragon paraphernalia, she says.
Beth and Mike George originally opened Foggy Bottom in Clifton Square at 3700 E. Douglas.
“They outgrew that building pretty quickly, and then they came down here,” Terry says of the store’s current 6,000 square feet at 3234 E. Douglas.
The new space will be next to the Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide call center.
Terry says the new Foggy Bottom should be open by Aug. 1. Look for more information then.
