With David Moses leaving to become the new general counsel for Wichita State University, Moses & Pate is going away, too.
Attorneys Chris Pate and Richard Paugh are forming Pate & Paugh on July 1.
Pate will be managing member.
Paugh joined Moses & Pate shortly before WSU’s early May announcement that it’s hiring Moses.
Attorney Erica Lopez also is joining Pate & Paugh when the new firm debuts.
“We do have plans to grow in the future,” Pate says.
The firm will remain in the Moses & Pate space at the Garvey Center downtown.
Moses & Pate formed in April 2014 after the Case, Moses & Zimmerman partners went their separate ways.
Pate says he’s worked with Moses since 2007.
“I’ve been with David from the very beginning of my career,” he says. “He’s a great mentor.”
Pate practices criminal defense, family and juvenile law and traffic and DUI law.
“As a firm, I think we will probably emphasize those areas pretty heavily,” Pate says.
He says Paugh has a business background and does transactional and contract work along with wills and estates.
The two went to law school at Oklahoma City University School of Law and have often discussed working together.
“The timing was never right, and now it is,” Pate says.
He says he’s known Lopez for about four years.
“She’s full of energy,” Pate says. “I’m very excited about the group of attorneys we’re going to have here going forward.”
