Former Sweet Basil partner Diem Phan, who likes to joke that she’s half Italian, has plans to open a new Italian restaurant in Old Town Square.
Phan is working on a lease for the former Hana Next Door space, which is, of course, next to Hana Cafe.
Most recently, Phan had a couple of small Asian restaurants, which she sold.
Now, she plans what she calls home-cooked Italian fast food.
Never miss a local story.
The space would allow Phan to have seating for 32 people, but she says she also would focus on carry-out food and catering.
She says lunch will be a significant part of her business but is too short to be her whole business, so she’ll likely be open till 8 p.m. for dinner as well.
Most meals will be in the $5 to $8 range, Phan says.
She says she hasn’t decided how many days of the week she’ll be open yet.
Phan says she’ll share more information in a couple of weeks after she signs a lease. She says she hopes to be open no later than June, though Phan says it could be by the end of May if all goes well.
