Lots of people dream of writing a book or cookbook, but not Harry Pape.
However, the businessman-turned-chef has a new cookbook, “Simple Cooking with Chef H.”
“I’ve just done this kicking and screaming,” Pape says. “Everybody said, ‘You should do this.’”
He says clients and friends, especially Susan Armstrong of Armstrong Chamberlin, convinced him.
Never miss a local story.
“This cookbook is kind of a result of years of collecting recipes and creating recipes,” Pape says. “People kept on reminding me that they were using my recipes and that they were enjoying them.”
The book has 90 recipes and 45 accompanying videos, which readers can see through scanning QR codes. Pape says the videos are especially handy for cooks who are just getting started since they can see ingredients and how they’re put together for a recipe.
“And also see what it’s supposed to look like at the end.”
The book is available at Watermark Books & Cafe or at various signings and events for the book, including its launch party from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Taste and See.
Pape says “Simple Cooking” features easy-to-find ingredients that are fairly healthy, too.
“I’ve tried not to make it complicated,” he says. “I’m not a classically trained chef, but yet I think on the other hand, that’s the beauty of this book.”
