The former Dyne Quik space at 1202 N. Broadway, which most recently was a brief home to El Maya, soon will offer a taste of New York.
Melissa and Ahmed Ramy Salem, who met each other in Times Square several years ago when Ahmed Ramy Salem was working at Ray’s Pizza there, are opening Taste of Times Square.
The two had the restaurant for eight months at 13th and Grove and closed it in early January.
Melissa Salem says they’re “just moving on to bigger things.”
Never miss a local story.
She says the menu at the new location will be a little different than it was in the previous one.
“You can get just about anything you want in New York and Times Square,” Salem says. “It’s kind of what we want to be.”
The restaurant will be open for breakfast and lunch starting in early March.
“It’s more of an American-style breakfast,” Salem says.
For lunch, she says there will be more of a Mediterranean flair, but there will be “quite an array of food.”
She says Times Square is “kind of the melting pot of America.”
“This is more of the menu that I had originally planned,” Salem says. “We have the space to be able to do a lot more.”
Lenny Diaz of Realty Executives of Wichita handled the deal for the space.
He also helped the owners of El Rancho open a second location this week at 1601 E. Pawnee, which is near Pawnee and Hydraulic.
The first El Rancho opened in a new building at 2801 N. Broadway in 2011.
“It’s always packed, and people walk away,” Diaz says.
With the second location, he says now the restaurant will be able to serve people who come from the south and east sides.
