I hope you take a few minutes in the next few weeks to nominate a deserving small business in our community for the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Awards.
The nomination process opens today at Exposure, the Chamber's business-to-business trade show at Century II.
There is no better way to express your appreciation to a local supplier or customer for their excellent services or products, and I am speaking from firsthand experience.
As the recipient of a 2010 Small Business Award, I can easily say it is the most gratifying business experience in the 27 years of Professional Software. The recognition was felt at all levels of the company, not just the owners.
Never miss a local story.
For our loyal employees who experience the highs and lows of the technology industry — and there can only be a few of you out there who don't know what I am referring to — this award was a community pat on the back for our employees' dedication and perseverance. To add to the prestige, dozens of customers and suppliers echoed the sentiment of the award with cards and congratulatory messages. The positive public relations value is beyond compare.
The nomination process is very simple. Anyone can nominate a company. Businesses are broken up into two categories, those with one to 25 employees and those with between 26 and 100. About the only requirements beyond the number of employees are that the business must be a chamber member and located in the Wichita metro area and have been in business for at least three years.
Once a company is nominated, it will be asked to submit an application to the chamber's judging committee. All applications are confidential and will be exclusively reviewed by the committee.
From the initial applications, five finalists in each division will be selected, based on things such as business operations, contribution to the community and entrepreneurial spirit.
The finalists will be required to meet with the judging committee and make a short presentation about their companies at the chamber's Sunrise Scrambler in April.
You can nominate a company by picking up a form today at Exposure. For more information, you can call the chamber's Angie Elliott at 316-268-1129 or e-mail her at aelliott @wichitachamber.org.
Don't let the quality companies in Wichita go unnoticed. We have many great local companies that consistently focus on the details and work hard to deliver a great customer experience.
Just like they say about the Academy Award, "it's an honor to be nominated."
