Sam's Club isn't afraid of cheesy.

To celebrate the opening of its new store in west Wichita, it has invited cheese carver Sarah Kaufmann to put chisel to cheddar to create characters from the "The Wizard of Oz."

According to a news release, Kaufmann will be working on a 500-pound Wisconsin Mammoth block of cheddar Thursday. She also will be working on her sculpture Saturday. Store customers can watch and sample some Wisconsin cheddar.

Sam's Club, at the corner of 29th and Maize Road, will have its grand opening from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, according to the release.
