Liebherr-Aerospace has opened a Wichita office in order to be nearer to the city's aviation manufacturers.
The Toulouse, France-based company does business with Bombardier Learjet, Hawker Beechcraft and Cessna, said Joe Lloyd, lead engineer at the Wichita office.
"It just makes more business sense," Lloyd said of the decision to come to Wichita.
The Wichita office, at 105 S. Broadway, Suite 1040, offers customer service and engineering assistance and employs one designer and three engineers.
They're working on projects such as engine bleed valves, cabin pressurization valves, cooling systems and actuation systems, Lloyd said.
Liebherr-Aerospace was selected to supply the integrated air management system — the engine bleed air, air conditioning, cabin pressure control and anti-ice systems — and the electrically driven fowler flaps for Bombardier's new Learjet 85, the company said.
The Liebherr Group employs 32,800 people worldwide in its more than 110 divisions.
Its aerospace and transportation systems division employs about 3,700 people.
