William Shatner, best known as Capt. James T. Kirk on the 1960s TV series “Star Trek,” appeared at a Bombardier Business Aircraft news conference Tuesday to plug the airplane maker’s new WAVE (Wireless Access Virtually Everywhere) Internet service.
Shatner traveled to the news conference at the National Business Aviation Association Convention on Tuesday morning on a Bombardier Global Express large-cabin business jet, from Los Angeles.
Speaking to a packed room, Shatner said, of the WAVE service, “if you’re an executive going someplace in the world and you need information ... you can do this aboard your airplane. Unprecedented.”
Jean-Christophe Gallagher of Bombardier said the new service provided by partners Honeywell and Inmarsat will be available on new production Global 5000, 6000, 7000 and 8000 jets. It will be offered as a retrofit service on older Global Express jets beginning next year.
