NetApp has trimmed its workforce in Wichita, according to a company spokeswoman.
Amelia Vierra, a public relations manager for NetApp, said Wednesday morning that the company laid off a number of Wichita employees effective Tuesday, though she did not disclose how many were affected.
On Feb. 17, the California-based data storage company announced that it planned to cut 12 percent of its global workforce. NetApp has a research and development facility at 3718 N. Rock Road.
“This is a difficult but important step in aligning our cost structure and resources with the opportunities ahead,” said Vierra in an e-mailed statement.
NetApp had about 12,300 employees worldwide at the end of October. The company's revenue shrunk by 10.6 percent and its profit by 13.6 percent in its fiscal third quarter that ended Jan. 29.
