Spirit AeroSystems plans to add more than 1,000 jobs over the two years, President and CEO Tom Gentile announced Wednesday. It also plans $1 billion in new capital investment at its Wichita site over five years, he said. Gentile said the company needs to grow and is out of room. Kansas City Star staff photographer David Eulitt videotaped the lightning from a line of thunderstorms in mid-Missouri on his flight from Chicago to Kansas City on Southwest Airlines Flight 20 Monday evening. Eulitt was returning from the Chiefs-Jets game in New Jersey with a connection in Chicago.

Kenny Napier took about 4 hours to hang the 46-foot mural in Brandon Steven's new restaurant, 6S on Wednesday morning. The mural designed by local artists Josh Tripoli and Rebekah Lewis is made up of photos from around Wichita shot by Lisa Sparks. Sparks says she shot nearly 1,300 photos for the project.
