Civil engineer and principal, Professional Engineering Consultants
Unruh combined her interests in engineering and the environmental sciences to become a specialist in water and wastewater treatment plants. In a decade at PEC, she’s worked on projects across Kansas, plus some in Oklahoma and Colorado.
“The interesting part to me is that you’re looking at water all the way through the process,” she said. “You’re trying to find people a supply of water; then how do you treat it so it meets health requirements? And once everybody gets rid of it, how do you treat it so it can go safely back into the environment?”
“I just enjoy solving problems.”
The daughter of a retired Methodist pastor, Unruh moved every couple of years as a child before the family settled in Wichita when she was starting middle school. She earned an engineering degree from Kansas State University in 1999.
She was recently named a principal at PEC, which she said “allows me to be part of the folks in the company that are working to develop the direction of the company.”
Unruh and her husband, Jason, have a son, Caiden. She’s active in her church, enjoys reading and is in the process of visiting all the Major League baseball stadiums with her husband.
“My mother’s entire side of the family is from St. Louis, so I’ve grown up all my life around the Cardinals and baseball.”
