As part of its grand opening celebration, the new Sam’s Club at 3084 N. Maize Road is holding a tailgate and flag ceremony Tuesday to honor active military and veterans, according to a news release.
The event will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday. Military personnel will help with a flag dedication, and Sam’s Club employees will grill hamburgers and hotdogs throughout the event.
A fuel station at the Sam’s Club will open Tuesday as well, while the new 136,000-square-foot store is slated to open July 17.
The new store will employ more than 160 people. Caleb Shannon will be the manager at the store at the corner of Maize Road and 29th.
Sam’s Club, a subsidiary of Wal-Mart, “will offer a job to any honorably discharged veteran in his or her first 12 months off active duty. Most of these jobs will be in Wal-Mart stores and Sam’s Clubs, and some will be in distribution centers and the Home Office,” according to the release.
The company projects it will hire more than 100,000 veterans over five years, according to the release.
