Simmons First plans to acquire Mo. bank

The holding company of Simmons First National Bank said Wednesday it plans to acquire a Springfield, Mo.-based bank.

Simmons First National Corp. said in a news release it has reached an agreement to acquire Liberty Bancshares and its bank, Liberty Bank, in a $207 million, all-stock deal.

The deal is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter. Liberty has $1.1 billion in assets and 23 offices in southwest Missouri.

Simmons First National Corp., based in Pine Bluff, Ark., has $7.8 billion in assets. Simmons First National Bank operates two offices in Wichita.
