Wichita area unemployment rate drops to 5.3 percent for April

The Wichita area unemployment rate in April was a not-seasonally-adjusted 5.3 percent, down from 5.8 percent in March and 5.8 percent in April of 2013.
The number of people working, about 284,000, was up about 1,000 from a year ago, and the number of people unemployed, but seeking work declined about 2,000 from a year ago.
Elsewhere in Kansas, the not-seasonally-adjusted unemployment rates were: 4.4 percent for the state, 4.7 percent in Topeka, 4.6 percent in Kansas side of metro Kansas City, 4.1 percent in Manhattan and 3.9 percent in Lawrence.
