Financial literacy expo planned for April 12

Several community organizations are partnering to offer the Financial Freedom Expo next week, in conjunction with Financial Literacy Month.

Several community organizations are partnering to offer the Financial Freedom Expo next week, in conjunction with Financial Literacy Month.

The free event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 12 at Urban Preparatory Academy, 2821 E. 24th St.

It will offer a number of 45-minute-long workshops, including on budgeting and saving, buying a home, investing in retirement funds, and how to get out of the payday lending cycle.

Representatives from the Wichita Financial Planners Association will be on hand, as will city of Wichita officials who can talk about the city’s home improvement programs.

Free hot dogs will be served and prizes will be awarded, including a flat-screen TV and Kindle Fire e-readers.

Event sponsors are the Wichita branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, COGIC Urban Initiatives, Community Voice newspaper, Sunflower Community Action, Urban League of Kansas and the Wichita Council of Elders.
