Wichita area unemployment rate rises to 6.3 percent in February

The Wichita area unemployment rate for February was a not-seasonally-adjusted 6.3 percent, up from 6.2 percent in January.
But the rate was an improvement from a year ago, when the rates was 6.7 percent.
The number of people working, about 281,500, hasn’t changed much since last summer, although the number of unemployed people seeking work is trending up, to about 19,000.
The unemployment rate in the Lawrence area was 4.9 percent; Manhattan, 5.4 percent; Kansas City area, 5.9 percent; Topeka, 6.2 percent.
