A roundtable luncheon in Hutchinson by energy proponents to discuss the benefits of wind energy will be Feb. 20, after being postponed earlier due to winter weather.

It will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Siemens Nacelle Facility, 1000 Commerce St., Hutchinson.

Some in the Kansas Legislature say they will try to remove the mandate called the Renewable Energy Standard, which requires major utilities in the state to generate 20 percent of their power from renewable sources by 2020.

The Feb. 20 forum includes presentations about poll results about the standard, as well as about the economic impacts of the wind industry, solar and net metering education, and an update on the issues being discussed in the Legislature. Officials with Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce, Siemens and Hutchinson Community College will discuss local impacts.
