Two large nonprofits have created a Kansas-based group that aims to provide back-office services to other nonprofit organizations.

Nonprofit Solutions Inc. was launched this month by Wichita-based EmberHope and TFI Family Services, said Toyia Bulla, chief administrative officer of Nonprofit Solutions.

“It’s our vision to maximize the resources of charitable organizations” by providing them outsourced administrative services such as human resources, payroll, financial statements and consulting, and marketing, Bulla said.

She said it is the intent of Nonprofit Solutions to provide those services to nonprofits at a cost that’s lower than what they would pay to have those services in-house.

“Resources are shrinking on all levels. … Donor giving in an economy like ours is down,” Bulla said. “We really want to maximize, give them the skill set they need, but hopefully at a reduced cost.”

The new organization, which is based in Emporia, has offices throughout Kansas, including Wichita and Topeka, she said. It has about 100 employees.

Its current clientele comprises EmberHope and TFI, which provide child and family services.

Bulla said pricing on services would vary, based on the size of the organization and the services they need.

EmberHope and TFI were looking for ways to reduce their back-office costs and shift the savings to their programs. That’s how Nonprofit Solutions was created, Bulla, who is also chief financial officer at EmberHope, said.

“I can tell you the savings for the two organizations is along the order of 30 percent over having that full, internal support staff,” she said. Bulla added the savings for other organizations will “vary on each individual case.”

Bulla and Lynn Deckinger, EmberHope’s marketing director, said Nonprofit Solutions likely won’t make a broad push of its services to other nonprofit groups until later this year. “We want to make sure we can fulfill all the requests coming in,” Deckinger said.
