Wichita area’s unemployment rate rose in December

The Wichita area unemployment rate rose in December to 5.3 percent from 5.1 percent in November, according to the Kansas Department of Labor.
The number of people working fell about 2,000 from November, while the number seeking work rose by about 800.
The December rate, which was not seasonally adjusted, was a considerable drop from the 6.0 percent of December 2012.
The Kansas unemployment rate for December, which was not seasonally adjusted, was 4.5 percent.
