Contractors are working today to repair fire damage to the roof of the Cargill beef packing plant in Dodge City, while crews clean up inside.

The company expects to restart plant operations during the second shift Friday evening, said company spokesman Mike Martin.

The fire broke out Monday evening at the plant and about 1,000 employees evacuated. There were no injuries.

The cause remains under investigation, Martin said. Damage was estimated at about $250,000, and included destruction of or damage to roofing materials, insulation and some electrical conduit.
