Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas will extend for a year existing insurance plans for individuals and small groups that previously were determined to be ineligible for renewal under the Affordable Care Act.
The company made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.
The change comes after President Obama requested a one year delay to the implementation of that portion of the health care law because of problems with the launch of the online marketplaces and because of complaints from policy holders whose insurance plans were canceled.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas said about 10,000 individual policy holders will be affected, and they will receive letters this week that explain their options and steps they need to take to renew their plan.
