A brew pub and diner in Hays has won top honors at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver.
Gella’s Diner & Lb. Brewing Co. was named the 2013 Champion in the Small Brewpub and Brewer category.
It was the only Kansas brew pub to win honors at the festival, one of the largest beer competitions in the nation. Gella’s also won a gold medal for its American Hefeweizen and a silver medal for its American wheat beer. The festival, held over the weekend, includes hundreds of participants competing in more than 70 categories.
Gella’s was founded by its brewmaster, Gerald Wyman, who along with more than 50 investors started the diner and beer operation in 2005. It’s located in downtown Hays at 117 East 11th.
