For those who are curious about how their pay compares to others in their field or to other fields, there’s a new resource to learn about local and state wages.

The 2013 Kansas Wage Survey from the Kansas Department of Labor, released Friday, includes starting, average and top pay for more than 500 occupations in the Wichita area as of 2012.

The average for all Wichita-area occupations was $19.53 an hour in May 2012, up from $19.24 an hour in May 2011.

At the top of the earnings list are surgeons, who make on average about $248,000 per year, while at the bottom are dining room attendants, who average $8.06 an hour.

As a group, heath care occupations remained the highest paying, while food preparation and serving jobs were at the bottom of the list.

The state labor department, which compiles the survey in conjunction with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, is in the midst of surveying employers for its 2014 survey. Survey forms are mailed to 4,500 employers throughout the state.

The full survey is available at www.dol.ks.gov.
