WICHITA – Roger Scholfield says he has some news that may not be very sexy, but it bodes well for his Scholfield Honda and Wichita, too.
"We have contracts pending on nine houses right behind the dealership," Scholfield says. "We really don't have any building plans other than to blacktop it and use it for additional parking."
The good news is the dealership is growing.
"We just need the additional space for inventory needs right now," Scholfield says.
The dealership has eight acres. The new properties, if rezoning is approved, will give it an additional 2.2 acres.
"That will really help us out," Scholfield says.
After that, though, he says, "We're about tapped out on where we can expand here."
Scholfield thinks the space will be sufficient for at least a couple of years.
He says Wichita's economy took longer to rebound than other places, but it's been steadily growing.
"It's coming on right now."
Scholfield says it shows in his dealership's numbers.
In 2012, he sold 1,442 new Hondas, which was a 49 percent increase over 2011. He sold 1,003 used cars, which was a 20 percent increase over 2011.
This year, the dealership is doing even better.
