Drayton Alldritt has returned to the place that shaped him into a banker.
Alldritt, most recently president of Equity Bank’s holding company, started July 30 as senior vice president and senior client manager for Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s global commercial banking unit for greater Kansas, based in Wichita.
Bank of America is the predecessor of Bank IV, where the Wichita East High School and Harvard University graduate started his banking career nearly 30 years ago.
“It’s a neat opportunity to maybe finish a career where I started,” Alldritt said Friday from his new office at 100 N. Broadway, just a few feet away from where his Bank IV office used to be. “I grew up here. I grew up at Bank IV. Essentially, I’m back where I started.”
In his new position at Bank of America, he is working with large commercial clients — with annual revenue of $50 million to more than $2 billion — locally and across the state, except the Kansas City area.
Some of those clients are ones he worked with when he was at Bank IV and Bank of America between 1984 and 1999. “So I’ve got contacts in those parts of the world,” he said. “Hopefully I will be reinvigorating some of those.”
Alldritt, 50, said he had done all he set out to do at Equity, where he worked for six years.
“I started looking for other opportunities about a year ago,” he said. “It was time for a change.”
He said that since his first departure from the bank almost 14 years ago, he had stayed in touch with Shawn Lancelot, market director for Bank of America in Wichita. That relationship led to him rejoining the bank, which he said has felt like a “Bank IV reunion.”
“There’s still a lot of old Bank IV people here,” Alldritt said.
He said he also intends to raise the profile of Bank of America’s commercial banking business locally.
“This is not a new position,” Alldritt said. “I hope to enhance it. It’s a very visible role and I intend to make sure we’re on the map.”
