State unemployment drops slightly, to 5.5 percent

The Kansas unemployment rate in April improved to a seasonally adjusted 5.5 percent, a slight drop from 5.6 percent in March, according to the Kansas Department of Labor.
The state gained 11,000 private nonfarm jobs from a month and lost 800 public sector jobs.
The biggest gains were seen in the following sectors: professional and business services, manufacturing and financial activities.
