Doug Hensler, dean of the Barton School of Business at Wichita State University, informed colleagues by e-mail Thursday afternoon that he is leaving to become provost at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.
He has been dean since 2008. Hensler was dean at the Craig School of Business at California State University at Fresno when he was hired.
He was hired at WSU in part because of his private sector experience, including as an engineer and scientist at McDonnell-Douglas Astronautics.
Hensler couldn’t be reached for comment Thursday.
In the e-mail to colleagues, Hensler wrote:
“My time with you has been a source of tremendous joy and reward. Your constant hard work and achievements are an inspiration to others and to the community we serve. I am in awe of what you do day in and day out to make the Barton School better.
“With those thoughts in mind, I have the bittersweet task of informing you that I am leaving Wichita State to assume the position of Provost at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Janie and I are looking forward to our move and the challenges to come. NPS is a very unique graduate institution and the opportunity to serve in a role supporting our national security is one that we cherish. Should your travels lead you to our neighborhood, please do let us know ahead of time. We would take great delight in seeing you again and showing you around NPS.”
