The Wichita area unemployment rate in February remained flat with January, at 6.5 percent, according to the Kansas Department of Labor.
The rate, which is not seasonally adjusted, rose in January and February after holiday hiring pushed the rate as low as 6 percent in November and December.
February’s rate was down from the 7.4 percent rate of February 2012 because about 1,000 more people were working than a year ago, and because 2,500 fewer people were looking for work.
