Rain and snow improved subsoil conditions slightly for crops in south central Kansas last week.
Subsoil was rated 13 percent adequate and 87 percent short or very short, while the week before, it was judged 10 percent adequate and the rest short or very short.
The Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service also reported Monday that 31 percent of the winter wheat crop across the state is in poor to very poor condition. About 40 percent is rated fair with 27 percent in good and 2 percent excellent condition.
