The Wichita office of accounting and consulting firm BKD has seen a noticeable uptick in business as its parent adds its first Iowa office.
Bill Pickert, Wichita managing partner, said Thursday that the office, at 1551 N. Waterfront Parkway, has had 35 percent revenue growth in the past two years and has added half a dozen staff in the period, boosting its full-time employees to 47.
The office also has six interns — fourth- and fifth-year accounting students — currently working because of tax season, he added.
The growth has come from existing clients and the addition of new ones.
Those clients are in the sectors of financial institutions, health care, oil and gas, and nonprofit and governmental, Pickert said.
The additional business has come despite a slow-growing economy, Pickert noted.
“It’s been really fun to watch as people step up, take on additional responsibilities and grow their practices,” he said. “I’m proud of our people.”
Pickert said 2013 is looking to be a strong year because the office is “extremely busy” and has added several new, large clients, though he said he could not name them without their permission.
Pickert also said that the Springfield, Mo.-based firm is adding an office in Des Moines. It has hired Marvin Debner, a Des Moines certified public account, to lead the new office. Pickert said the company has $3 million in client work in Iowa.
BKD has a total of 30 offices in 13 states.
