Tattoo-removal business uses special laser technology

For those who can’t wash away their tattoos but wish they could, a tattoo-removal business called Original Skin is opening Saturday.

Original Skin uses photo acoustical laser technology, which uses less heat than the typical tattoo-removal laser, and fragments the ink under the skin, said owner Bob Lida.

Once the ink is fragmented, Lida said, the body’s natural processes wash the fragments away. Sessions are done every few weeks as the tattoo continues to lighten.

Lida, who said he’s never had a tattoo, became interested in starting the business after talking to his daughter. A self-described entrepreneur, he also owns Lida Advertising.

“My daughter had a few tattoos she wanted off that were visible, and she was in her second year of med school. It was very expensive,” Lida said. “I was interested in the technology, so I looked into it. I thought, ‘Nobody in Wichita has this kind of a laser.’ ”

According to Lida, the procedure can also be used to treat age spots and sun damage. A typical session will usually last about 20 minutes in addition to prep time, he said.

Jo Ellen Parson-Eby is the company’s certified laser technician.

Original Skin is at 3300 N. Rock Road, Suite A3. Its hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday or by appointment.
