Steve Harris, CEO for Galichia Heart Hospital, will retire effective Dec. 31, Wesley Medical Center announced Friday in a news release.

Harris has been the CEO for Galichia since 2006. Prior to that, he held vice president and executive-level positions at hospitals in Chicago, Phoenix and Washington D.C.

He was also vice president and chief financial officer for Via Christi St. Francis Hospital from 1983 to 1986.

Under Harris, Galichia transitioned from a physician-owned hospital to a Hospital Corporation of America owned campus of Wesley Medical Center in February 2012.

Harris is a chairman of the city’s District II Advisory Board and is a board member of the Wichita Airport Advisory Board, the Sedgwick County Zoo and the Wichita Grand Opera. He is also a member of the Wichita Rotary.

Harris said he will focus on getting his commercial pilot’s license and spending more time with his grandchildren, according the news release.

The search for a replacement is under way, Wesley spokesperson Susan Burchill said.
