Haile earned his degree in geology from Wichita State University about the time the oil industry took a downturn, but he soon found a niche doing environmental work.
“It just looked like an interesting field,” he said. “I got started at the ground level and just moved up through the environmental ranks since that time.”
Born and raised in Sterling, Haile started working for Terracon here in 1989. He transferred to the company’s Colorado Springs office in the early 1990s, then left to work for the El Paso County government for 11 years.
After a year with another consulting firm in Omaha, he went back to work for Terracon in its Cedar Rapids, Iowa, office in 2009. He returned to Kansas as manager of the environmental department in April, and then was promoted to senior associate.
Never miss a local story.
Terracon is an employee-owned consulting firm that provides environmental, geotechnical, construction materials and facilities services. It has more than 2,800 employees in 39 states.
“A big component of what we do is to try to help people resolve environmental issues with property transitions,” Haile said. “With a lot of our natural resources work, we’re just looking at moving the project forward while protecting natural resources.”
Haile and his wife, Nellie, have five children: daughters Ashley, Erin and Gracie; and sons Jeremiah and Zechariah.
“I like to spend time with my wife and kids, get outdoors and do those kind of things,” he said.
