Koryn Zey and Stephen Burtin have joined BKD as staff accountants. Zey is in the tax department and Burtin is in the audit department. Tyler Boss has transferred to the Wichita office of BKD from the Little Rock office and is a senior account in the firm’s audit department. Cory Wells has transferred to the Wichita office of BKD from the Kansas City office and is a staff account in the firm’s tax department.
The Wichita Aero Club has elected the following members to its board of directors: Kim Nussbaum, publisher, Wichita Eagle; John Ek, publisher, Wichita Business Journal; Sean Weaver, executive vice president, assurance services, Allen Gibbs & Houlik; Rod Wilson, business development Goodrich Interiors; Stephanie Harder, manager of community affairs and internal communications, Cessna Aircraft; David Van der Wee, vice president, marketing, business & general aviation, Pratt & Whitney Canada; and James Hansen, Hawker Beechcraft.
Jon Lammers has joined Spirit AeroSystems as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary.
Keri Shimkus has been promoted to community bank president for CornerBank’s Wellington and Oxford locations.
George Sponsel has been promoted to member service associate III at Meritrust Credit Union.
Becky Bazil has joined Legacy Bank as a loan scanning/documentation clerk.
Susan Kang, development director for the Dole Institute of Politics, KU Endowment Association, Lawrence, and Clayton Tatro, president, Fort Scott Community College, have been named to the board of directors of the Kansas Leadership Center.
Christine Pileckas, marketing manager, Intrust Bank Arena, and Sarah Haertl, former director of sales and marketing, Intrust Bank Area, have been nominated for the Venues Today 2012 Hall of Headlines awards. Pileckas was nominated for the “12 Days of Entertainment” promotion and Haertl was nominated for an advertising campaign, both in the marketing category of the trade magazine’s award program.
Sean Miller, a managing director with Northwestern Mutual RPS Financial Group, has been awarded the International Management award for 2012 by GAMA International.
Charles Cole, J. Eric Engstrom, Thomas Lasater, Gregory Stucky, William Townsley and Lyndon Vix, attorneys with Fleeson, Gooing, Coulson & Kitch, have each been recognized as Wichita’s 2013 Lawyer of the Year in their practice areas.
Andrew Kovar of Triplett, Woolf & Garreston, has been appointed by the president of the Kansas Bar Association to serve on the 2012 Kansas Bar Association Annual Survey Committee. In August, the committee published the 2012 Kansas Annual Survey of Law. Kovar was re-appointed to the committee for 2013.
Thomas Triplett, James Walker, Theron Fry and Eric Metz of the law firm of Triplett, Woolf & Garretson have been recognized by Missouri/Kansas Super Lawyers for 2012. Amy Fellows Cline with the firm has been included in the Missouri & Kansas Rising Stars 2012 list.
Exploration Place, The Sedgwick County Science and Discovery Center has announced the following additions to its board of trustees: Dan McCarty, Via Christi Medical Associates; John Mosely, retired from Sheplers; William Pickert, BKD; Cindy Schwan, community volunteer; Michel Korwin-Szymanowski, Bombardier Flight Test Center; and Julie Shipman, Cargill. The 2012-2013 Exploration Place executive board includes: Betsy Redler, community volunteer, chairman; Greg Sevier, Peterson, Peterson & Goss, vice-chairman; William Bischoff, Wichita State University, treasurer; and Deanna Harms, Greteman Group, secretary.
Dennis Bender has been named executive director of the Union Rescue Mission. Bender has been serving as the interim director at the mission’s shelter since May.
Matt Bain has joined The Nature Conservancy in Kansas as the coordinator of the Smoky Valley Ranch Project and will oversee operations of the 16,800-acre working cattle ranch near Oakley in Logan County.
Pat Carney has joined the Derby office of J.P. Weigand & Sons as a residential real estate sales associate.
Alisa DePontier has joined the new homes division of J.P. Weigand & Sons as a residential real estate sales associate.
Patricia Moore has joined the Riggin & Co. team at Realty Executives as a licensed real estate agent.
Charla Dawson has joined Animal Hospital at Auburn Hills as a registered veterinary technician.
Mary Davenport and Eric Bruckner, IT project managers, and Greg Law, IT project manager lead at Via Christi Health, recently completed the Project Management Boot Camp at Wichita State University Center for Managerial Development.
Jarvis Seaman, Jr. has joined Lowen Corporation in Hutchinson as director of information technology.
