Christner didn’t need much of an orientation period to get to know the Cosmosphere, where she started work Sept. 10.
“I came every year while I was growing up for school functions, as well as just coming with my family,” said Christner, who’s from Hutchinson. “I was very familiar with the Cosmosphere.”
Christner earned a degree in theater from Southwestern College in Winfield and a master’s in journalism and mass communications from Kansas State.
She owned her own advertising studio in Hays for several years, then worked in customer service for Dillons before spending two years as a work readiness specialist with the Kansas Department of Children and Families.
At the Cosmosphere, she said, her job “is basically just putting it all together. We have a designer, we have an outreach person. It’s my job to look at the big picture, do the media planning, get everything scheduled, and make sure everything happens when it’s supposed to happen."
Her first project is rolling out the Cosmosphere’s new digital dome theater, which will debut next month.
“It used to be the IMAX theater. It’s got some technology, and we’ll be able to do a lot more with it,” she said.
Christner and her husband have two sons, who are 3 and 4.
