Until Thursday, Marty Rueter had never been in Wichita.
But the president and CEO of Weichert Real Estate Affiliates, the franchising arm of New Jersey-based Weichert Realtors, though it was important that he come here for a number of reasons.
Tops on his list was to meet with the 30 agents of Weichert Realtors Compass Point, Weichert’s Wichita franchise founded in 2008 and owned by Howard Rishel and Don Edwards.
“There’s nothing like a little rah, rah once in a while,” Rueter said in an interview Thursday.
He said the Wichita franchise has been a fast-growing office and has “done very well.” But the office and its agents have “gone through a very tough market.”
Rueter also took the opportunity to provide most of those 30 agents some training on Thursday in a banquet room inside the Scotch & Sirloin on the city’s east side. That training included emphasizing the importance of integrating technology in the marketing of homes, and of staying abreast of advances in technology.
“We need to be as sharp as the young people buying homes,” he said.
Reuter estimated he’s made about 80 trips this year to visit Weichert franchise offices.
“Executives don’t sit in offices,” he said. “Our purpose is to grow these companies.”
Weichert Realtors, founded in 2002, has 420 offices in 35 states.
