Manufacturing activity in Kansas and the other states in the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank's 10th District slowed in October, but manufacturers' optimism about future activity increased.
The Fed said today in its monthly survey that the net percentage of firms reporting month-over-month production increases was 10 in October. That's down from 14 in September but higher than August, when it was zero, the Fed said.
Production decreases were reported at both durable and nondurable goods plants except for food and machinery manufacturers, which the Fed said reported a slight increase in October production.
The Fed said most of the survey's future factory activity indexes increased in the month.
