Hager is taking on a bigger role with a company he's worked for most of his career.
Hager, 54, has been in charge of PEC's electrical division for 20 years. Now he'll work closely with CEO Rod Young on issues that affect the company as a whole.
"It's taking more a business perspective, analyzing our financial situation, not just the electrical (division) but companywide, figuring out how we can provide better service and improve throughout the company," he said.
PEC has a staff of about 270 employees, with headquarters here and smaller offices in Tulsa, Topeka, Lawrence and Pittsburg, Kan. The firm works on a wide range of projects for a variety of clients, from architects to governmental entities. It's consulted on transportation, utility, mechanical, electrical, structural and telecommunication projects, and also maintains a laboratory offering materials testing and more.
"We don't do everything, but we provide most engineering-type services," Hager said.
A native of northwest Missouri, Hager earned a degree in architectural engineering from Kansas State in 1978 and moved to Wichita. He joined PEC in 1984, sits on its board of directors and is one of more than 30 principal owners of the company. He recently completed his master's degree in business administration at Wichita State.
Hager and his wife, Arlene, have three grown daughters. Outside the office he enjoys hiking, bicycling and "just about any physical activity."
Hager said PEC has been a ideal fit for him.
"You get involved in relationships with clients," he said. "The company is owned by its engineers. It's just a terrific opportunity for engineers that want to do this kind of work."
