Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington estimates it will save $1.6 million over the next 15 years from the $1 million it is investing in a new cooling tower and chiller.
Schneider Electric recently completed the facility enhancements at the 120,000-square-foot medical center.
Kelsi Hinshaw, spokeswoman for the hospital, said the old chiller was original to the building.
"We were definitely in need of that upgrade," which was essential to patient comfort during the summer, she said.
"The savings that we'll generate... will actually fund the project."
Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, completed the work as a performance contract, guaranteeing that the hospital will reduce its utility and maintenance costs by enough to cover the cost and debt service.
