Republic Airways Holdings said today it will shut down the Lynx Aviation regional service it acquired last year as part of its purchase of Frontier Airlines.
Republic will continue to service most of the Lynx destinations, including Wichita, through Republic Airlines.
Republic will use Embraer 170 and 190 jets. Lynx uses Bombardier Q400 turboprops.
"Converting service from the Q400 feet to jet service allows us to better utilize our existing aircraft resources and lower our cost of operating and maintaining multiple fleet types," chief operating officer Wayne Heller said in a news release.

Lynx operates two daily flights between Wichita and Denver.
The company will cease operations in Tulsa and Fargo, N.D. in April.
