Mike Sweeney thinks he has positioned his 58-year-old company to succeed in the lean times.
Sweeney is president of Overhead Door Co., which announced Monday that it had merged with Aero Fence.
Financial terms of the merger, which was completed Wednesday, were not disclosed. Under the merger, Aero Fence becomes a division of Overhead Door.
Aero Fence president and owner Doug Claxton will lead Overhead Door's fence division. Its assets and inventory are now with Overhead Door, and it has moved into Overhead Door's facilities at 333 Laura, Sweeney said.
Aero Fence's three employees have joined Overhead Door's 34.
Sweeney said the two companies have worked on several projects together in the past — including Kansas State University's football stadium.
Overhead Door provides and installs overhead doors and the motors that operate them for homes and businesses. It was started in Wichita in 1951.
Aero Fence has been in business for the past 12 years and provides residential and commercial fencing products and services.
Merging the two companies will help when times are slow for either company as well as allow them to offer expanded services and products to their customers.
"In these difficult times it would be great for us to have different options, and I think that (the reason for merging) was a lot of it," Sweeney said.
