TOPEKA — A man has been charged in Riley County with capital murder in the death of an 18-year-old woman and her 1-year-old son, Attorney General Steve Six announced today.
Luis Antonio Aguirre, 22, was charged in the deaths of Tanya Carmen Lydia Maldonado and her son, Juan Maldonado, the Attorney General's Office said in a statement.
Investigators allege that Aguirre killed the two around Sept. 19 and buried them in a shallow grave near Ogden, the statement said. Hunters discovered the bodies a few weeks ago.
Aguirre was arrested in Texas on Oct. 30 and taken to Kansas last week. His first court appearance was this afternoon.
The Death Penalty Defense Unit has been appointed to defend him.
His bond will remain at $2.5 million.
His next hearing is scheduled for Dec. 7.
