The Kansas Supreme Court this month suspended a Wichita lawyer's license for three years for his failure to properly handle four medical malpractice cases.
In its ruling, the court said James A. Cline, who was working for the Accident Recovery Team, missed the statute of limitations or made other serious errors while handling the cases. One case originated in Garden City, one in Arkansas City and two in Wichita.
The court noted in its ruling that some of the clients had received or could receive legal malpractice settlements.
But, it added, "with all the cases mishandled by the respondent, it is difficult to determine what may have resulted if those clients would have received adequate representation or to what extent those clients would have been compensated for their injuries."
A lawyer who represented Cline argued that that clinical depression contributed to his client's misconduct.
